<p>Methyl formate, a methyl ester of formic acid, is a clear liquid with an ethereal odor, high vapor pressure, and low surface tension.</p> <p>Methyl formate can be used, among other applications, as curing agent for resin-based foundry molds and as blowing agent for polyurethane foams. Methyl formate is also used in the synthesis of fine chemicals and insect control agents.</p> <p>In the environment methyl formate decomposes into carbon dioxide and water.</p>
